I have always loved black and noir themes and are cynical of our cultural archetypes of sweetness, pinks and rainbows associated with fairytales, innocense and little girls dreams. In this piece, I found it amusing to subvert and rebalance these social 'hallmark moment' ideals  that we are force fed through the media. Black Rainbows speaks to this subversion. Bold black pallete knife strokes of paint disgorge sprays of neon Barbie pink, throwing (from my view), life into balance again. Wild scribbles of charcoal and controlled pink pastels highlight a rebellion against traditional form and the pressure to conform. This painting is a wildcard for me and I hope that the right viewer comes along that identifies with the underlying sentiment.
